Installation
Professional Installation
As you move through the classroom technology selection process, much of the focus is put on selection of core products such as hardware and software. Even though these elements are important in the selection process, there is another equally important component that often gets overlooked….INSTALLATION. There are many factors surrounding proper installation that can make or break a technology plan. We have listed below some of the variables to take into consideration when partnering with a vendor for your school or district’s technology needs.

Size
Knowing the relative size of a vendor’s company, and the size of their in-house installation staff, is important in determining if they can meet your school or district’s needs. A larger company has a higher likelihood of being able to financially handle your product purchasing, staging, installation, and service needs. Equally important is a large installation staff because the more in-house, (not subcontracted), installers a company has, the more control they exert over the work being done in your school or district

Computrac has over 35 years of experience in the education technology industry to help us to meet your needs. Last year we installed over 10,000 classrooms and we project the installation of 18,000-22,000 classroom solutions this year. We also employ over 35 installers that work directly for Computrac. We have the industry presence you need to get the job done.

Experience / Certifications
Most audio/visual companies have installation teams with one or two experienced installers and many inexperienced assistants. With this scenario it’s easy to see how products could be installed incorrectly, creating system malfunctions. In your selection process it’s important to demand that your installation company carry INFOCOMM certifications such as a CTS certification. This certification gives a company the background knowledge to integrate classroom components for proper function. For more information on this topic see infocomm.org.

Another component of experience and certifications is an audio visual engineer who can design a system that works for you. Many companies claim to have this type of expertise but they are usually referring to an experienced installer. Computrac has a C-EST certified audio visual design engineer that oversees all jobs before they begin to make sure all the materials and functionality of the system are understood by our installation team.

The majority of Computrac’s current installation staff is CTS certified and all new hires are required to take the CTS test to move from an assistant to a lead installer. Computrac has one of the most experienced installation teams in the industry with each two-man crew consisting of an experienced lead and their assistant. This ensures that every installer has the help needed to safely and correctly complete the job.

Insurance
Because technology implementations are expensive, it’s important that your technology integrator is insured against any accidents that might occur. This factor is often overlooked because the capability of the installation team is a top priority. But, if you stop and think “what would happen if...” then you understand why a properly insured integrator is important.

Computrac has implemented a safety program to ensure that all of the installation staff maintains a safe work environment. In addition to our safety program we maintain an extensive liability policy in case any incident arises.

Method of Installation
There are many different variables that impact how a solution is installed. Picking an integrator that has extensive experience installing the type of technology you are purchasing is key to proper installation. Factors for consideration include: Fire codes, ceiling structure type and height, clean power access, distance to power outlet and outlet type, and wall construction (dry wall vs. brick).

Computrac will work with you to make sure each one of the factors addressed above are checked and double-checked before we start an installation. Our project managers will make sure that your project is correctly implemented.

Project Management
With any project it’s important to have a dedicated person handling the entire project from start to finish. After the sale, your account representative should hand your account over to a project manager to plan project development. This project manager should be on site for the duration of all large implementations. This position is becoming more common place in the industry but there are still quite a few companies that haven’t implemented this position. We believe that this is a critical component to any project’s success.

Computrac has experienced project managers that supervise the installation process from start to finish.
Planning begins with an on-site walk-through to determine the feasibility of installation. Next, the project manager will go through each room with you to complete a pre-installation form, that you sign off, stating where certain technology pieces will be placed. When the job is completed another on-site walk-through is conducted to make sure all the rooms are functioning properly. After the completion of the job, if requested, we will provide you a master CD of all sign-off forms.
